Good idea, weak execution,
I didn’t know I needed a stylus like this, but I quickly was smitten by the idea of using a stylus pen instead of trying to use a fingertip. The extra precision of the stylus instead of a finger is welcome, allowing me to work on my iPhone quickly and accurately.
However, the first problem is that it is very heavy for a pen. This makes it difficult to hold comfortably for long periods without strain. I would not choose it as a regular pen just for this reason.
The pen itself writes like a very ordinary cheap ballpoint. Again, if you needed a pen and this is all you had, better than nothing, but for a heavy, expensive item, it wanted to be a nicer writing pen. I would not choose it as a regular pen for its writing ability. I would still carry another pen with me for writing.
The laser pointer works as a laser pointer.
But the worst part is after just a few times taking the cap on and off, the cap on my pen no longer stays on. This makes it clumsy and annoying to use. I will probably end up taping or gluing the cap on permanently to use it as a stylus and laser pointer. I did drop the pen once, but still!
The cap alone works as a very credible stylus (if only it was longer), so clearly the weight comes from the laser pointer. I think I would prefer it to be lighter in weight and give up the laser pointer.
Finally, for this to be most useful, an accessory case that holds the iPhone and pen would be ideal, so they’re always together and at your fingertips, and yet the pen is not loose to scratch the screen.

Updated: From 1 Star to 4,
Original Review followed by an updated review, based upon Targus correcting an issue. Originally rated 1 star… updated to 4 stars.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
This seemed like a decent purchase before I actually received the product. Here is what I experienced:
1 Pen cap does not stay on. If you lose the cap, you also lose the ability to use this as a stylus. Additionally, your pen is always exposed.
2 FYI: Very Heavy. I can understand why (it is a laser pointer/pen). Just thought you should know.
3 FYI: Functions decently as a stylus, although the stylus tip is wider than most.
4 FYI: If you buy a Targus iPad 2 case , the stylus has difficulty fitting in the stylus holder. Also, if your case has a stylus holder located in the spine of the case, chances are you will be inadvertently turning the laser pointer on while carrying the case. The laser pointer button is not recessed, so closing the case and applying any pressure while carrying it will cause the case to press against the button.
Point #1 is the big issue… the other comments are minor.
9/25/11: Update to my Original Review (above):
Based on the response from Targus, I called them and very quickly reached a customer service rep. No wait time. The rep was very friendly and helpful during our conversation. She took my info, apologized for the inconvenience, and explained that the stylus has a known issue with the cap not staying on. She explained that a replacement would be provided at no cost. 5 days later I received the new stylus and the issue appears to be corrected. Overall, outstanding customer service from Targus.
I would give this product 4 stars now that the cap has been fixed. Also, to be fair: This is the first issue I have encountered with a Targus product, and I own at least 6 items from them. With a track record of quality products, I will chalk the stylus situation up to a one-off mistake. Add in their outstanding customer service, and I will continue to purchase their products.

Great little stylus!,
I own an Acer Iconia Tab W500-BZ467 10.1-Inch Tablet (Silver). I love this tablet, except for one little annoyance… even with my petite fingers, I have trouble with the touchscreen. When using my fingers, whether or not I touched the screen on the right place to do what I wanted was a crap-shoot. Enter the Targus 3-in-1 Stylus to the rescue! It works every time, and it hits the screen in the right place. Besides it’s accuracy, here are some other pros:
* looks like a high-end pen (and is about the same size)
* the pen works well, and the ink never skips.
* it comes with a D1 ink refill.
* the refills are reasonably priced, and come in Private Reserve 635 Mini D1 Refill (5) Pack – Black or Private Reserve 635 Mini D1 Refill (5) Pack – Blue
* it has a laser light.
* The red point of the laser is a bit larger than other laser lights, which make it easier to see.
I can’t think of one drawback to this stylus except (maybe) the price. It’s a bit costlier than other styluses, but it also does more. In fact, if you happen to need a laser, a pen and a stylus, I think you’d spend more buying them separately than buying just this one stylus.
